From the first cut to the last coat of oil, week by week, on a single dining chair.

All stories

Weeks one to three

We choose the boards and cut the parts oversize, then leave them to settle in the workshop. Wood moves when it is cut, and we would rather it moved here than in your home.

Weeks four to seven

Joints are cut, fitted and glued by hand. The legs are shaped with a spokeshave until they feel right, which is a different thing from measuring right.

Weeks eight to ten

Three coats of oil, with a day of rest between each. Then we bring it to you.
